Supermarine Spitfire PR Mk XI PL965 - Life of an Airframe

The Spitfire PR XI was an evolution of the Mks VII, VIII and IX. It incorporated many of the lessons learnt along with additional features optimized for high-speed reconnaissance.

PL965 had a varied history, starting its operational career with 16 Sqn RAF and serving throughout Europe. Post war it conducted flights along the Iron Curtain, before being sold for the princely sum of £25 to the Royal Netherlands Air Force. It would be used as a ground instructional airframe until the 1960’s where it was then retired to become a gate guardian at Overloon. She would go on to be restored to flying condition and wear a series of liveries throughout her life, before returning full circle to her 16 Sqn markings as she appears today.

This livery is for the Flyingiron Simulations Spitfire LF Mk IXc for Microsoft Flight Simulator.
